Always look people in the eyes.
There’s a lot your brain can register through eye contact. Avoiding eye contact won’t make you safe. It only blinds part of your senses and makes you a target.
Af daboolan waa dehab. A closed mouth is gold.
Your words depreciates in value once it leaves your mouth. If you’re nervous about what and how to communicate with someone, you either aren’t psychologically safe with this person, you are at war with yourself, or a blend of both. Remember your words are gold, and not everyone deserves it.
Pinch yourself in public and take a deep breath alone
The truth is you can’t out think a stressed state, but taking a deep breath in the middle of an argument can disrupt the flow or aggravate someone who is prone to hostility. Instead, I pinch my thigh under a table or cross my arms and pinch my forearm. This forces my brain to divert energy to where I pinched, which helps slow my brain from racing and helps me find a path to deescalate, reroute, or exit an intense situation. I hope this can help you.
Never play a zero sum game in your relationships
A zero sum game is a situation where one person can only win if another person loses. The reality is, there are no winners in relationships like this, and seeking closure through “losing” is giving the other person a kind of power of you. Your energy is best spent elsewhere like channeling your rage to better yourself & achieve your goals.
Low self esteem leads to low standards
Permitting poor behavior from others is a subconscious way of saying “I deserve to be treated this way.” You might think this is harmless at first, but once you let it pile up, you will damage the view you have of yourself and the person you see in the mirror will start to look different. You shouldn’t have to shout from the mountain tops to have someone treat you with basic respect.
Treatments
For any beauty treatment, go somewhere reputable. It is better to get nothing done than to be botched, burned, or bruised.
My rule of thumb is to go to a place that specializes in what you want to get done. For something like laser hair removal, at the bare minimum the med spa you go to should specialize in it. And I would rather you travel to a city with access to higher quality spa services than risk you getting hurt. This is me speaking from experience.
Here are the beauty services I regularly get and recommend. In the future, I’d definitely like to get more massages and facials.
Treatments I get:
Eyebrow Threading
I do this 1-2 times a month, it’s a must
If I need a touch up and can’t make it to a salon, I will tweeze my own.
I like going to Nepali eye brow spots. I always have a favorite threader.
Lash Lifts and Extensions
I only do this for special events, holidays, or if I need an emotional pick-me-up
I used to do this more regularly, but harsh chemicals near the eye is a no-go for me
Here’s what I do to fake a lash lift daily:
Apply lanolin to your eye lashes then curl your lashes with a warm eyelash curler. Thank me later
Laser hair removal
Under arms
When I first started I got it done every 4-6 weeks for 6 months. This removes most of the hair. Now I touch up as necessary every 18 months
Any hyper pigmentation from shaving your underarms will fade
Brazilian
I only did enough sessions to thin the hair growth. This is too intimate to go into detail, but just keep this in mind if you decide to go this route.
Manicures
I get my nails done every 3 weeks
If you are going to a salon and want a long lasting manicure go for a builder gel
I only use The Gel Bottle BIAB colors
If you have a hard to growing your nails, you will be able to get length if you use a builder gel
I think just a clear coat is sexy
Makeup Starter Pack
Before the falsies and smokey eyes, you need to know how accomplish an undetectable base makeup.
My makeup philosophy:
Don’t Follow The Rules
Think of a product’s intended use a suggestion. revisit and remix your cultures’ beauty traditions, and take the tips I give you as a guide, but have the freedom to make it your own
Treat Makeup like painting
Think of your face as a canvas and your makeup as paints that you are blending. Take it to the next level by mixing different blushes.
Sometimes More is More
Try new things, makeup will will wash off at the end of the night. Live a little.
The Undetectable Base:
Pre-Makeup
Always wash your face and moisturize before applying makeup
Apply extra moisturizer or eye cream under eyes to help with concealer application
Once the moisturizer absorb into your skin, apply a makeup primer
Drink water throughout. I hate to say it, but it’s true
Makeup Routine:
Always start with your brows
It makes your face look more complete which makes you less likely to over apply face makeup.
Then Spot conceal
Apply concealer to any spots or marks first, then diffuse the edges to blend it into skin.
After that do your eye concealer
To prevent ceasing, avoid getting too close to the lash line. Also, eye bags are sexy
Go in with foundation
Since you spot concealed first, you only need to apply enough to blend everything together and make the look cohesive
And dust everything with blush and bronzer
The face naturally has color to it, and the goal of blush and bronzer is to bring some of that color to the face
Some Bonus Notes:
On Brushes
Expensive brushes aren’t all that
If the brush itches, it will irritate your skin
Clean your brushes AT LEAST once a week
On Makeup Sponges
The original pink and black beauty blender work better than the other colors.
Soak your beauty blender in water, squeeze out the excess water, than squeeze it out again in a paper towel or clean towel
Go Mini
I’m a huge fan of buying the mini version of a product
It gives you the opportunity to try something out and exploring different shades
Toss it
Make sure to toss out any expired makeup
Declutters products you haven’t used in a long time to downsize or make room for something new
Skincare
Last year I had the worst break out in my entire life, and it absolutely tanked my self-esteem. I started spending hours online watching skin-care routines and swiping my credit card each time I might’ve found the next “perfect” product. I ended up spending thousands of dollars at Sephora and Ulta, ruining my skin barrier, and breaking out even worse than before. I even stopped eating cheese, which if you know me..this was unthinkable.
At this point, I was desperate and needed to change my approach. My time and money would be better spent going to dermatologist, and now I have wisdom for that experience, a solid skin care regime, and healthier approach to skin care that I’ll share below.
My Skin care philosophy:
There will be no fragranced products on My face
Being consistent is better than being fancy
Keep removing Your makeup until nothing transfers on a cotton pad
Just because a product is viral doesn’t mean that it is good enough for you
Seek a licensed professional before listening to an influencer
My Routine:
Morning Routine:
Pre workout
Rinse with water
Apply a light moisturizer
Post workout
Use a face wash
Every other day, I use a face wash with Benzoyl Peroxide
Apply a day-time Moisturizer
Night Routine:
Micellar Water with cotton pad
Oil Cleanse - only when wearing makeup
Face Wash
Apply Treatment - Tretinoin
Night Moisturizer
